Eyelid melanoma is a rare type of skin cancer that develops from pigment-producing cells called melanocytes. It can occur on the eyelid skin or around the eye and may appear as a new mole or a change in an existing pigmented lesion.
Although melanoma is less common than other eyelid skin cancers, early diagnosis and treatment are very important because melanoma can sometimes spread to other parts of the body.
We recommend specialist assessment if you notice:
A new dark or pigmented lesion on the eyelid
A mole that is changing in size, shape or colour
A lesion with irregular borders
Bleeding, crusting or ulceration
Loss of eyelashes near a pigmented lesion
Any lesion that looks different from your other moles
